While some people claim 5G is not dangerous at all, others are spreading the news that 5G is bad for health and wellness. Simply put, EM radiation refers to the waves within an electromagnetic field, meaning they contain both an electric and magnetic field. This can be anything from microwaves, radio waves, X-rays, infrared, ultraviolet, and gamma rays. When an atom absorbs energy, electromagnetic radiation is created. EM Radiation produces an electromagnetic wave as a result of a reshuffling of electrons within an atom from one position, back to their original place. Simply put, radio frequency radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation and lies in the range of 3-300 gigahertz (GHz) within the radiation spectrum.

Is RF radiation safe?

Radio frequencies fall in the category of non-ionizing radiation. What this means is that they contain insufficient energy, thus, they are unable to break chemical bonds. They are a relatively minimal risk due to their lower frequencies and bigger wavelengths. Experts claim that the main negative effects of radiofrequency radiation for humans are mostly thermal, including tissue heating. On the other hand, high levels of exposure can lead to a disruption in biological structures that are sensitive to temperature, thus causing damage.

Is 5G more harmful than 4G?

You may be asking, is the level of 5G network danger, greater than 4G? The answer may lie in the towers themselves. The 5G tower is quite a bit different than that of a 4G tower in its functionality and appearance. In short, more 5G towers are required to cover the same space as they are smaller in size. They can be constructed in this way thanks to the fact they require less power. With that said, the smaller cells on a 5G tower support a higher frequency millimeter wave. This poses the question, will the need for more towers, put us at a higher risk? We'll get more into the millimeter-wave later, and dive deeper into the facts. Is 5G Harmful to Human Health?

The proven correlation between electromagnetic radiation exposure and adverse health effects is not a new concept, yet neither are the studies touting against the negative effects. Needless to say, this leaves a lot of room for confusion from the general population. While there is plenty of research around EMFs, and the results seem conclusive of the dangers, doubts still exist.

Is 5G Actually Dangerous?

When compared to the radio frequencies of 2G, 3G & 4G technologies, which use between 800MHz and 5GHz, 5G uses a substantially higher frequency. The wavelength of 5G falls within the scale of non-ionizing radiation, which according to studies is a form of radiation that hasn't been proven to cause cell damage.

With all that said, within the radiation spectrum, 5G is substantially stronger than the waves produced by radio frequencies. Countless 5G radiation scientific appeals have been conducted and have generated findings proving the link between higher frequency radiation and it's increased danger to all living organisms.

What the research says

According to the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), they have declared 5G to be safe. That being said, they do outline a number of protection guidelines that must be followed for this to be true. The new guidelines add to those previously outlined in 1998, which were put together following a thorough review of scientific literature.

"The most important thing for people to remember is that 5G technologies will not be able to cause harm when these new guidelines are adhered to," stated Van Rongen."

In addition, test conducted by Ofcom, the UK regulator for communication, claim that the emissions from 5G do not exceed the highest level permitted as set out by the ICNIRP. In the summary of the report, the maximum measured emissions at any of the sampled sites, were around 1.5% of the allowable limit.

Why 5G is Dangerous

The studies surrounding the dangers of 5G, fail to consider that as 5G continues to roll out, many more base stations will be using higher frequencies, such as the millimeter wave. The issue with this is that mobile services haven't used this frequency yet and no one really knows what the effects are. The higher band frequencies combined with a denser network of 5G base stations has made many people believe that the radiation will be amplified. There are entire bodies of research suggesting that the risk of 5G implementation could be detrimental to health.

In the European Parliamentary Research Service paper, 'Effects of 5G wireless communication on human health' released in March 2020, a clear correlation is made between the use of the millimeter wave, combined with the positioning of the cell towers, and the higher frequency of the network (page 3).

Some of the possible risks and dangers of 5G include:

  • Potential Carcinogenic - The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified RF EMF a possible carcinogenic and plans to spend time reviewing its risk in the coming years (2020-2024)
  • Increases negative impacts of EMF exposure - Studies claim that with constant exposure to wireless technology, the negative impact of electromagnetic radiation will increase.Scientists are pushing for new exposure limits.
  • Higher likelihood of causing biological disruptions - with the use of higher frequencies, there will also be a higher level of pulsating. It is the negative effect of the pulse that many scientists are highlighting.
  • Adverse effects to key processes - a 2018 review, speaking of the health effects of 5G in addition to RF EMF, pointed to the millimeter wave as a cause for negatively affecting essential processes in the body. The millimeter wave has the potential to affect skin temperature, metabolic and inflammatory processes, and promote proliferation of cells.

Is 5G Harmful or Not? The Conspiracies

We touched on it a bit earlier, but now it's time to expose things even more and bring light to what many are calling a massive conspiracy. If 5G really wasn't harmful, then why would governmental organizations be banning ads from anti-5G campaigners? Many people feel that these types of actions display a high level of cover up. We'll let you form your own opinions, but it's important to point out one key detail before moving forward.

In order for a tech idea to come into fruition there are a number of laws that must be lobbied for/against in its favor. Long story short, if there's money to be made, and the negative impact of a new technology can be softened by cleverly adjusting the laws, stakeholders, governments, and anyone else involved in the idea, can make a heck lot of money.

We can be naïve and think that huge tech companies don't have hidden agendas or big profits in mind, or we can be on the other extreme of thinking that everyone and everything is out to get us. One such case involves a UK based charity who ran a campaign in the summer of 2019, posing the question, 'How safe is 5G' and displaying quote claiming that 5G was at fault for reducing fertility, contributing to depression, and leading to cancer. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled out the claims and banned the advert.

Other such examples of censorship include countless Youtube account suspensions of activists, and blocked Facebook groups containing thousands of members who support the destruction of phone masts.

5G & Coronavirus

We thought it was important to touch on the topic of 5G and Coronavirus so we could highlight an important fact. That is, that anyone can make a claim about anything which can later result in an explosion of speculation. If you're unfamiliar with the 5G coronavirus conspiracy, here are the three main stories floating around:

  • Coronavirus symptoms result from 5G radiation exposure
  • 5G worsens the symptoms of coronavirus
  • The COVID-19 pandemic is a falsified pandemic used to detract people from the installation of the 5G network.

No scientific evidence has been released to support these theories. The World Health Organization, International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, and the Federal Office for Radiation Protection, emphasize that viruses and radiation are two separate entities and no correlation exists between the two.

Regardless of what the scientific research says, the best place to look for the answer to the question, is 5G dangerous, is within your own body. When were present in our physical form and conscious of how we feel, we can pick up on energetic fluctuations within our own electromagnetic field. Not only that but the lack of research around the theory that the harmful effects could be a result more of the pulse of the 5G frequency, rather than the potency, is worrisome.
